Broken Bubble: How a Playful Display Font Boosted Our Campaign's Visual Impact

The Last-Minute Font Fix for a Summer Sale Series

We were three days out from launching a summer flash sale campaign for a small lifestyle brand, and the visuals weren’t landing. The thumbnails felt flat, the Instagram Stories didn’t pop, and even the email banners looked forgettable. We had the right imagery, the colors matched the brand guide, and the copy was punchy—but something was missing. That’s when I reached for Broken Bubble, a display font I’d recently downloaded but hadn’t yet used in a live project.

What Makes Broken Bubble Stand Out

Broken Bubble is a display font with a whimsical, hand-drawn charm. Its bubbly letterforms have a slightly irregular, almost “erased” texture that gives it a soft, approachable feel. It doesn’t scream attention like a bold graffiti font, but it invites the viewer in with a sense of playfulness and warmth. It’s the kind of typeface that works well in both digital and print environments, especially when you want your message to feel personal and human.

It’s not meant for body text or long paragraphs. Instead, Broken Bubble shines in short headlines, callouts, quote graphics, and decorative titles. We used it for the main text overlay on our Instagram Reels covers and YouTube thumbnails, where we needed instant readability and a strong emotional hook.

Using Broken Bubble Across Campaign Assets

Once we swapped in Broken Bubble, the visuals clicked. The font’s soft curves and broken-line texture contrasted beautifully with our clean product photography and flat background overlays. Here’s how we applied it across different content formats:

Readability Tips for Mobile and Thumbnail Design

When using Broken Bubble in fast-scrolling environments like Instagram or Pinterest, keep these tips in mind:

  1. Use at larger sizes: Don’t shrink the font too small. Its charm lies in its texture, which gets lost at tiny sizes.
  2. Contrast matters: Pair it with high-contrast backgrounds. We found it worked best on light or mid-tone backgrounds with a soft drop shadow or white outline.
  3. Limit character count: Use for short, impactful phrases. It’s not ideal for long sentences or captions.
  4. Test on dark backgrounds: Some of the broken-line details can disappear on dark tones. Consider adding a subtle glow or light fill behind the text.

Font Pairing for Visual Harmony

One of the best things about Broken Bubble is how well it pairs with other fonts. Since it’s a decorative display font, we always paired it with a clean sans serif like Montserrat or Inter to balance the visual weight and maintain readability.

This kind of font pairing helped us maintain a consistent brand voice across all campaign assets—playful but professional, fun but not childish.

Technical Considerations Before Launch

Before we deployed Broken Bubble across client assets, we double-checked a few technical aspects to avoid last-minute issues:

When to Use Broken Bubble (and When Not To)

Broken Bubble is not a workhorse font. It’s not built for long-form content, data-heavy infographics, or interface design. But it’s perfect for:

It’s not the best fit for:

Final Touch for Visual Consistency

By the time we launched the campaign, Broken Bubble had become a core part of our visual identity for the summer sale. It wasn’t just a font—it was a design decision that helped unify our content across platforms. It made our thumbnails more clickable, our Stories more engaging, and our email headers more memorable.

If you’re a digital marketer, content creator, or brand manager looking for a creative font that adds personality without sacrificing clarity, give Broken Bubble a try. It might just be the missing piece in your next campaign’s visual puzzle.
